The first Greek settlement dates back to the 6th century BC and was established in the present day town of St.Martí Empúries, (Palaià Polis).
On the highest part of the Old Town we find the Santa Maria Church. It is of late Gothic origins, constructed between the 16th and 18th centuries. Cadaqués has strong connections with art as the painter Salvador Dalí, although born in Figueres, built his unusual home in the neighbouring bay of Portlligat in the 1940s.
A small and charming fishing village with beaches of crystal clear waters. Here you can visit the Roman Monastery known as the Monestir Romànic de Sant Pere de Rodes.
